The History of Solution Focused Brief Therapy
Wendel A. Ray, PhD, is Hammond Endowed Professor of Education and Professor of Family System Theory in the Marriage & Therapy Program, at The University of Louisiana-Monroe (ULM). The former Director of the Mental Research Institute (MRI) in Palo Alto, California, as well as a former member of the MRI Brief Therapy Center, and the MRI Strategic Family Therapy Project, Dr. Ray continues to serve as an MRI Senior Research Fellow. Dr. Ray’s expertise is in applying System Theory to understanding and evoking constructive change human behavior, and in addition to teaching maintains a small private practice in relationship focused therapy. Author of 100+ juried journal articles and book chapters, and 10 books available in 8 languages he is frequently invited to teach Brief Therapy and applied system theory at forums nationally, across Europe, Asia, and Central America. We are pleased to learn from the former MRI member, considering how Steve, Insoo and their colleagues, were strongly influenced by the MRI model of brief therapy.
